March Feature: Eco-Silk Artist Nani Pacal
Developed by Nani Pacal, eco-silk-art is delicately layered silk collage on elephant poo paper. A typical image is made from hundreds of individual silk pieces. Nani and her mum hand-color the silk using plant-based dyes and a steaming process that captures imprints of leaves and flowers. They source sustainably grown and harvested materials including dyestuff from their own backyard like yellow onion peel, blackberries and oak galls.
Nani will be present at the Fiber Arts Collective during the First Friday Art Walk on March 4th, 2022 from 5-8 pm. She will be working on a new piece in the gallery, so visitors will be able to see the steps involved in her creative process. Please drop by to say hi and delight in Nani’s delicate, intricate eco-silk creations.
